Awaiting Your Return

Alone I wonder how you pass the days

until again I see your sweet face.

Do my voice and figure ever cross your mind

as fleeting thoughts and wisps of memories?

How I long to reach across the distance

that keeps me from your charming smile,

yet no wish could bridge that vast expanse,

appearing farther with every passing hour.

By day I long for sounds of your sweet laughter

and for the ease with which you made me smile.

By night I dream of your tender embrace,

imagining the feeling of your gentle touch.

Patiently I wait here for your sweet return,

while the sands of time slip silently through my fingers

and the day fades into the dark of night,

the endless hours marching slowly by.
