With love from the Cheshire Cat

They tell you about Wonderland, how it's all fake
With open hands, you do accept this blind mistake
But what I see is different, what I see is a pantomime
We are all blind and falling fast
Put down your books
Open your eyes -
In Wonderland, there are no lies
They cry for teacups and the queen
It's magical; there is no greed
Brightness swells to technicolor
And Alice fell into this other universe;
Try and tell me, ‘Alice don't exist'
I don't believe this, you don't see
I AM Alice, I have the dress
But I'm not impressed with your bottles and cakes
And you won't shake the way I know I'm right
And I'll fight tooth and nail, day and night
With the Caterpillar's advice -
He's getting HIS insight from the hookah pipe
While my lover's buying his laughter in a plastic bag
Burning it up, sharing it to shut us up
And refuses to stop when I decide that I'm not
Sitting here in lace and
Watching his face light up;
“That's just life”
But maybe down the rabbit hole
The world isn't so upside-down and spinning around
Where all I want to do is step down, run away
Make like a dog and play dead
Maybe then the lines will be a little straighter
And silence will overcome the violence
And I see us being full of wonder - in the past,
Maybe then I could come back
Go to bed and forget
Maybe you'll regret all of this
When the bells ring
And you can't remember a thing, not a thing
Not even me.
