The Encroaching
When the evening dwells at the edge of day
and dying sunlight begins to recede
the howling night starts to mournfully bay
and my heart once again begins to bleed.
With twilight shadows skulking and lurking
sinuous tendrils and wispy fingers
pull me into a world dark and murky
where forgotten hopes of dead dreams linger.
Darkness has come creeping back into me
inducing grim and oppressive despair
leaving me adrift in the blackest sea
just barely afloat and fighting for air.
Though in the deepest and darkest of night
Dim as it may seem, I’ll still seek the light.
