Author’s notes: As you might have noticed (or maybe not…) I have a recurring theme of an angels and demons. Er, rather it’s one specific Angel and one specific Demon. The Angel being me, the Demon being my… er, my… love… interest. Yeah, that’s it.
…it’s complicated.
Anyway, this is yet another poem from my anthology “Angel of Earth, Demon of Sky” which I finished last Tuesday.

Damaged
---
With a smile and laugh
She flew into the air
This beautiful angel
With a crystal-eyed stare.
So young and naïve
She couldn’t have possibly known
What would inevitably happen
The instant she had flown.
Because what goes up
Must always come down
And this gentle angel
Crashed to the ground.
Her wings were broken
Torn and stained with mud
And her porcelain face
Was tainted with blood.
Her hair was matted
And her skin was scathed
As every inch of her being
Was suddenly enslaved.
A silver chain around her heart
A metal lock on her mind
Everything she’s ever loved
In shreds and left behind.
Only misery ahead
A meaningless life of pain
The angel cried bitterly
With sorrow and strain.
With tears that are useless
And wails of strife
She learned you only have to fall once
To be damaged for life.
