Listless Nights

A blank computer screen stares back
unmarred by type.
Silence left unbroken by the sound of keys clicking;
Finger nails brushing gently against the soft black surface.

A writer sits,
and moans,
tearing at her hair;
eye's brimming with tears of frustration.

The neighbor's radio's blaring.

Cats are fighting,
dogs are barking,
all semblances of quiet thrown to the wind,
concentration scattered amongst the papers piled on the desk.

The printer's beeping;
out of toner.

All together the screen goes black;
and the writer's head hits the keyboard.

Writers'
block
strikes
again.
