Pristine

White shimmering beauty
Glistens as we speed past
A world frozen in time
Unmarred by the dirt
And grime of every day life
Trees young and old
Even the fallen
Look majestic and proud
In their white powder coats
It is only the evergreens
That sadden this pristine beauty
They seem ashamed
Their branches droop and bend
They are a proud bunch
But Old Man Winter has
Put them in their place
You get to shine year round
And you get winter all to yourselves
While your brethren
Must stand naked in the cold
Let them have a moment
To be the star in winter
The fatherly old man tells them
And the evergreens have
New reason to be ashamed
For now they realize
How undeservingly pride-filled
They had become
And collectively they decide
To sit back and enjoy
The pristine world around them
For it lasts such a short time
Before the dirt and grime
Reclaim the world
And all should enjoy the beauty
While it lasts
