A lifetime spent being opulent.

A lifetime spent becoming decadent.

In the end, it's all irrelevant.

Your health is gone, your money spent.

Every word you say is a banality,

And you've turned to venality

To replenish your fortunes lost.

It all came at so great a cost.

The linens and necklaces of pearl -

Now you've become a churl.

The large gilded, golden mirrors

Reflect your true self clearer

Now they're dust-covered and old.

What is rotten once was gold.

Your fine china has turned to trumpery.

Your parties are a debauchery.

Until you find yourself alone,

All of your acquaintances blown.

And at the end of your life,

You think back on all the strife.

Nothing you have is of worth.

You've wasted away since birth.

A lifetime spent being otiose.

A lifetime without sweet repose.

In the end, it's all in disarray.

All your life, years in decay.
