We don’t like mornings

Because of the brightness of the sun

Yet we despise the night.

As much as we hate the unknown,

The black,

Too many venture down that road

As they are contented

To hover before the surface

Clinging to their rainbows

And cotton candy dreams

Because if I cover my eyes

I can’t see you,

So you can’t see me.

A child’s logic

Is what fits us best

As we run into the sunset

Calling out the names of our mothers.

Too concerned

With our nine to five jobs

Punching our timecards

Getting to the office

In time to stand by the water cooler

And gossip about weddings.

It seems that it would be more fitting

To discuss our own funerals

Over crumpets and coffee cake.

Go ahead,

Sip your coffee.

No pressure.

Time has never been on your side anyway.
