She swoops gracefully just over my head
The most beautiful thing that I have ever seen
Is her white wings shining bright
And the pure smile that lights up my heart.
She lands oh so smoothly,
Her bare feet tickled by the blades of green grass.
And she turns and I feel like I might be
Special enough to attract the attention of an angel.
She walks over, and her soft hand touches my cheek
I feel as if I cannot move from my place
With my feet locked into the ground.
Sensing my nervousness, she laughs.
Like the sound of a gentle stream in the woods
Rippling and fluid
I feel my nervous muscles unclench like a peaceable fist.
Her blue eyes peer into me
And they can see into the deepest corners of my soul
The ones that have kept me up at night
They can make me ache with
She feels all the pain within me
And frowns.
From nowhere, she conjures up a Band-Aid
Unbuttons my shirt and puts it on my heart.
I button it back up quickly, slightly embarrassed
Ashamed of a body going to seed.
But she doesn’t seem to have cared at all,
And for a second, I’m afraid she’s angry.
My fears worsen as I see her get farther away
She hasn’t so much as flinched in my direction.
But suddenly she turns, and lets me see her face one last time
I give her a wan smile; she returns it dazzling, and then flies away.
