“I can’t believe that the school year is over! We actually made it through the entire four years without to many problems.”

“Hey did you know. There is a party at April’s house tonight.”

“Honestly her mom doesn’t even care that she has parties all the time.”

“It is fucking awesome!”

Outside Dansbury Prep in crisp blue robes, Travis, Will, Spike, Peter and Dennis stood in the fresh morning air. The atmosphere was joyous and frisky as the boys all stood around talking about what they were planning over the summer.

“Well I’m working on my farm all summer prepping the chickens for the egg season. How much fun I will have, at least I get paid,” Travis exclaimed.

“Wow how boring!! At least the four of us will have something fun to do,” Spike proclaimed. “We get to help Dennis’s dad with his soccer team.”

“Actually count me out. My dad says I have to help him at his office. I will not be able to help,” Will said as they boys rounded the corners to head to the parking lot. They reached the parking lot as the afternoon sky darkened with spring rain clouds.

“Yeah well April and I will be leaving soon for college, remember. I won’t be able to help as much as you think. We will only have a little while because we have to start our internship in Las Vegas,” Peter announced.

“Damn I forgot you were leaving so fast. What am I going to do after you leave, Peter? I will have nobody to rely on for food and lodging,” Spike said intensely.

“Spike, that’s what you have parents for,” Peter retaliated. “Oh yeah, I forgot!”

“Hey guys we better get going of we want to make it to April’s before it rains,” Dennis included quickly.

The sidewalk glistened with the spring rain. As the guys got out of the cars a mist began to roll in to the neighborhood.

“Hey, who is that walking up to April’s house? I don’t recognize him,” Spike said. “Wow it looks kind of like…” Spike was cutoff as the mysterious figure came into a clearer view. “What the hell are you doing here Ed? I definitely don’t think you were invited to this party. In fact I think you are the only person not invited,” Spike announced as Ed walked over to the car. Ed said back in a pompous tone, “Yeah well I heard there was going to be hot, available chicks here that are dying to hook up and my guess is that April is one of them.”

“I would bet one hundred bucks that you don’t hook up with her,” Peter said as he walked over to Ed in a protective way. Peter and April were partners in science class and Peter was so close to April that they were practically family. Peter kept walking towards Ed. Eventually Peter was so close that Ed could feel Peter’s breathe on his face. Ed slithered out of the tight spot, pulled a sly smirk on his face, and joined the party. Peter clenched his fists and turned around slowly.

“Dang Peter, if you were anymore tense you would be a board. You know that nothing will happen between April and Ed. She thinks he is the biggest ass in the world,” Travis stated.

“Lets go into the party before April starts to wonder where we are,” Spike said was blaring as the guys entered the party. The smell of alcohol filled the air with an appalling scent.

“Lets find April in this mess of people,” Peter said. “We should see who else is here.” Will announced that he was going to find Ella, his girlfriend and Spike and Travis went to get some drinks. Dennis also went off to find his girlfriend, Ally. Peter walked around April’s house and was approaching the bedrooms in the house when April came out of her bedroom, hair messed up and shirt unbuttoned.

“Peter, you are here. Is everybody else here too? I was wondering where you guys were? Peter is something wrong?” April ran out of breathe and just stood there watching Peter with a distant expression on his face. Peter quickly asked, “Who were you in there with?”

“Oh nobody special just the fling I needed tonight,” April said with a cautious smile. The door opened and a guy quickly slid out and suddenly gave a sly smile.

“Oh Peter, I believe you owe my one hundred dollars now,” announced Ed with a sarcastic tone. Peter suddenly swung at him and hit Ed right in the eye. Out of nowhere Travis, Will, Dennis, and Spike jumped in and started asking what happened. Ed got up and started yelling.

“What the hell are you doing you damn bastard?”

About ten minutes and about 20 punches later, Ed was leaving with two black eyes, a sprained wrist, and a twisted ankle. The boys faired much better than Ed did, which isn’t a surprise. Spike had an injured wrist, Travis had a fat lip, and Peter was severely out of breathe, other than that people were starting to clear out because the fight made everyone a tad agitated.

“Wow what a great way to end the evening,” Carrie, another friend of theirs, said, “See you guys later.” The only people left were Peter, Travis, Dennis, Spike, Will, April, Ella, and Ally. Dennis and Ally decided to find a remote corner to make-out, as did Will and Ella. Left in the living room, the others began talking about college and what they had planed for the rest of the summer.

“Well Peter and I leave in about a week. You guys will have to come and visit us in Vegas. We can party and have a ton of fun,” April chimed.

“Well the soccerteam will be over in like two weeks so we should all plan to visit you guys out there,” Spike proclaimed with a cheerful tone.

“You just want to get out of your house, so you don’t have to deal with your parents. I just might be able to make enough money to go and visit but I am going to be super busy with the farm,” Travis slipped in while everyone was talking about plans. April grabbed him, “You have to come out there! It won’t be fun unless all of us are out there together.” The couples came back and everyone sat there talking about their dream lives. They did this often because they all had imaginings about what life would be like if they could do anything they wanted.

“I really hope that this management class goes well so that Peter and I could start that business at the old building. We will be able to finally be out on our own and we won’t have to deal with our parents,” April declared with confidence.

“If I had the opportunity to do anything I would spend time writing or getting into a producing school and start making independent films,” Spike interjected. As the night went on everyone began opening up and started talking about fantasies that they had thought about.

“You know what I would do if I had the opportunity, I would rob a bank. If there was no possibility of getting caught that would be the coolest,” Ally said. April included her own thoughts, “That would be so funny. Imagine what it would be like to have all that money and doing whatever you want.”

“Yeah but would you really want to live your life on the run from the cops,” protested Travis.

“I know it would be weird but if you had no problems, it would be awesome how much money you would have.” April said. They continued talking about this for awhile then everyone started leaving. Peter and April were the only ones left as the sun started coming up.

“Peter, do you want to just sleep on the sofa? That way you wouldn’t have to deal with going all the way home.”

“Yeah thanks, I just don’t think I could make it all the way home without falling asleep.” Peter snuggled up on the couch and began to drift off to sleep.

“Peter, I brought you a blanket.” Peter snapped up quickly as April entered with the blanket. Peter couldn’t believe how great she looked even at 5 in the morning. She was in ratty, old shorts and a soccer shirt. Her hair was messed up and she looked as though she hadn’t slept in weeks, but to Peter she couldn’t have looked more beautiful.

“Here you go. Good night, I mean good morning!”

“Sleep well April.” As she walked out of the room she winked and Peter felt a light jolt as if someone had woken him up from a life long daze. He drifted off and he thought about how much time he was going to be spending with her in Vegas. He dreamt sweet dreams that day.

“Peter, why do you have that strange look on your face?”

“I’m fine April. I’m just so excited about leaving for Vegas in a few days.”

“Hey I was thinking we should probably leave around two on Thursday so that we can get to the airport early enough,” April said thoughtfully. “Thanks for letting me sleep on the couch,” Peter whispered. April gave him a hug,

“Peter you know you are always welcome here. You are practically my brother and my mom loves you more than she loves me.” Peter laughed,

“Talk to you later April.”

“Peter, could you pass the salt? Peter? What are you looking at?” Will said while he tilted his head. Peter snapped back from reality. He was of course thinking about April, as he had for the past couple days. He couldn’t help but think about her.

“Peter you are off in fantasy land again,” Spike proclaimed as Peter passed him the salt. Travis looked at Peter with an odd look and said,

“You are thinking about a girl aren’t you?”

“Yeah I am but I am not telling you because I don’t think you guys would believe me,” Peter said defensively as they finished lunch. As they were walking out of the diner, Dennis piped up.

“Hey you guys party at my house tomorrow as a going away thing for Peter and April.”

“Sweet that will be fun. See you there!” Spike yelled as he and Travis walked towards their cars.

“Okay I have to get out of here and go finish packing. I still cant believe that we are leaving the day after tomorrow. We are going to have so much fun in Vegas,” Peter exclaimed with joy and delight. Will and Dennis went to their cars and left Peter to sit on a bench outside of the diner, he was alone with his thoughts and his opinions. Peter thought to himself about the party and he realized that he should talk to April about how he was feeling. She would want to know so that they could straighten up the situation before they left for the class.

“Who knows what might happen between the two of us. But I have the feeling it is going to be good.”
