The Dream

I was walking

And I didn't know I was straying.

A familiar voice was talking

But I couldn't tell what it was saying.

Then I realized the sunlight

And how the sky was such a blue;

How the air was so warm and light

And the voice belonged to you.

You were saying things I longed to hear

You laughed, you soothed my soul;

Yet still only your voice was clear

Your presence was still un-whole.

Yet the joy that surrounded me

Was like the joy when you are near;

Full of love and glee

Gladness and good cheer.

Then suddenly your voice began to fade

You began to disappear.

With you light darkened into shade

And no more happiness was here.

The sky turned from blue to grey.

The air turned to smog,

The grass died and turned to hay

The world was dark and filled with fog.

Cold began seeping through

Like fire against my skin.

The air bit at my eyes too,

Reality was settling in.

I tried to cry out for you;

You had to come back.

How could this love that you call true

Desert me in a world so cold and black?
