“Unfooled”

I don’t how to be your friend

one minute you’re here

the next, you’re some place else

Keeping up with you is near impossible

I don’t know what to say to you

or how to say it

drifting away

running from person to person to hide

who you are

With me, with us

the old maybe the new

you don’t have to hide

Closed up, loud, obnoxious exterior means nothing

pushing away, pissing off

a way of life

flaunting something of nothing

flaunting something or nothing

Hiding behind the smile worn to cover the scars

the blisters, all the pain masked

behind a smile, a look

but looks don’t lie,

even if you can

(and well it seems to be)

you fooled some, not all

peering into your soul anyone could see

It hurts, doesn’t it?

but there you stand

acting unfazed, anger crossing your features

Lying with the mouth keeps us away

telling the truth with the window into your soul

keeps us here

maybe not near, but here

always

I may be wrong but,

I hardly know you

seeming so distant

complex and simple

Will I know you and understand?

or,

pushed away, glared away and left behind

Let me know

I need to know

Smile a true smile again

once more
