Water and the Sand
Water and the sand
A wet and dry land
Waves rushing for
Abreak on the shore
Fingers entwined
Footsteps left behind
Sunset’s fading glow
She wants him to know
Wet touches dry
Like tear on cheek, she cries
And he holds her hand
The dry in wet land
Foam hits the feet
Wash away the heat
Heart’s feeling cold
The unspoken not told
She wades in the deep
Her heart she wants to keep
He stays on the sand
Safe on his dry land
Waves tear in between
Like a broken seam
She continues to wallow
And he, unsure to follow
Orange, red sky
Calm before a night’s goodbye
Shadows turning black
One more chance to turn back…
Water and the sand
A wet and dry land
She spins and goes to say
“I almost went the wrong way.”
Water and the sand
A wet and dry land
He isn’t there to wait
And she has come far too late
Water and the sand
A wet and dry land
He left her one thing in the dark
Where sand met water
Were their names in a heart.
