I’m chained to this pitch-black soil

Where for centuries it seems I’ve lain

I try to stand but these ageless chains of

Mortal limitation

Hold me down

I crawl to find the path is getting steeper

I dig my nails into the ground

I try so hard

So desperately that my nails rip from the cuticles

Like I wish to rip from these chains

With all I have left I continue on till I find

That I am free

Living in the stars

I look for the moon to find that

I am the moon

Shining so bright by light that is not mine own

But that is who I am

I shine only at face value

But behind the glow is the

Darkest dark that is never known

Chainless

I rip from myself and find I am the man on the moon

The light of the night

And with my darkness behind me

I see the sun

And with all but logic in my mind

I leapt to outshine my source of light

And before I knew it

Before I was scorched to darkness

I plummet by a familiar force I do not understand

And I crash into the dark soil from where I began

I gaze at myself, covered in chains

Just like before

Just like always

They were never gone

Just unseen

And now plagued with regret

I stare at the moonless sky above

And I fade away with the last star in the sky
