Aftermath

A heavy weight upon my chest,

Heart aching, wishing for some rest.

Screaming deep inside my head,

Tear-stained blankets upon my bed.

Ripped-up love letters strewn across the floor,

Roses in a vase smashed against the door.

A sob hidden mere inches down my throat,

As in my journal the details I wrote.

Thinking back he never said he loved me,

Though I thought together we’d always be.

He told me it just wasn’t working out,

My heart froze, lips forming a pout.

He told me that we just could not be,

He told me that it was him not me.

If it was him and I did nothing wrong,

Then why must my pain drag on for so long?
