Are you rich?
Eh.
How good are you at making money?
Almost as good at it as I am at lying.
Oh really? Is that true?
Well wouldn’t you like to know?
As a matter of fact, I would. So I assume you are quite the productive woman, eh? It really is a new generation...
Indeed.
So how true of an answer is that? Would you say it is an accurate one?
It’s as true as my love for Jonathon Christopher Norwood, my fabulous fiancee.
Ah, so I’d guess that was a pretty serious statement then, ma’am. Would I be correct in saying that?
Most definitely.
Oh, but wait... Didn’t you cheat on him...your fiancee? If I recall correctly, the media had a field day with that one.
Absolutely not! I would never do such a thing. And the media, eh? I was unaware...
You know - the problem with this is that I cannot tell whether to believe your words, or label them a lie.
Well, I did say I was a good liar.
Yes, you did say that. But how do I know that you were telling the truth?
You don’t.
But then it would never be determined whether you really are or aren’t a good liar - and it absolutely can NOT end that way!
And in what way is that?
...Well, the world will never know the truth... Basically, if you lied about being a good liar, and we couldn’t be sure that you were lying, then you would have gotten away with it - thus making you quite the decent liar in the end. If this were to happen, you would have basically stated that you were not a good liar - but by not getting caught in your lie, you would have at the same time proved that you are in fact capable of fooling people, thus concluding that you are not just a good liar, but a great liar after all.
Hmmm, well I have to admit th-
Hey! I wasn’t done talking! I still have the other scenario to explain.
My apologies...
The other possibility would be that you were, in fact, telling the truth when you stated that you were a good liar. But in this event, you would not have convinced those around you that you were telling the truth, nor would you have made them believe that you were lying. Because you would have caused uncertainty -and they could neither be wrong nor right- it would force everyone to the conclusion that in the end, you are no better at lying than you are at... well- let’s just say you’d have proven that you are no good at lying.
So... it seems to me that -all sides considered- you end up not meeting the qualifications of a good liar, but neither could you be deemed a bad one. In this event, it should be decided that an adjective would be both inaccurate and unnecessary as a part of your title. You are nothing more, and nothing less, than (just) a liar.
Uhhh...erm...Good god! I think you confused me. Did that make any sense at all?
Of course it did.
Liar.
