Summer Perfection
As we sat and watched the stars.
And it dazzled around us, not fast or slow.
Just right.
And I can remember feeling empty,
as your eyes.
When you asked.
am I perfect?
And I had to answer no.
These words, this word.
Was so imperfect as well.
When words were at
a loss.
As like the sun, I fell.
Into my chair, as I watched,
the teacher write your name on the blackboard.
Am I perfect?
As she answered with a
negative.
And I had paused
when my pencil broke.
Just like that twig in summer,
when we watched the stars,
dazzle
in your eyes
When I answered you that day.
You said,
Am I perfect?
And I had answered no,
because I was not perfect either.
I was just.
Me.
