Starfish for her faery wings,

A little girl wearing leggings.

There’s fog across the bay

For today’s a windy day.

Purple berries in her hand

Trails of footprints in the sand

Tales of things to be,

Oh darling now where are we?

Naked on the rocks, fallen in the sea

Pale white limbs reaching out for me.

Seal skins and mermaids’ tails

Slipping out from under all those rusted nails.

Face painted with midnight juice

Tangled hair, she’s flying loose.

My legs are wrapped in coral and kelp

But she never needs anyone’s help.

Silver sand dollars on my eyes

Seaweed hair, what a disguise.

Grey water all around the world

Can’t catch that little girl.
