Guardians

Guardians are people from each Orendan village that are trained to protect the Royal Family. That is why they are taken to The Academy: to be trained, to be educated, and to be Chosen. The Guardians form the Royal Army and each year, different Guardians are assigned to each Family member. There are one hundred trainees, one hundred chosen applicants, and only three to twenty-seven of the students will be Chosen Ones. The rest of the students will continue for another year and another until they either drop out or are Chosen.

Usually, Guardians who don't gain their wings at the end of their first year, unlike Miss Angelos, go and become Talons (police officers) or Spiders (spies). Why are these positions held in less regard than Guardians?

Answer 1: Because they receive less pay?

Response: Incorrect. Guardians don't receive any pay

Answer 2: Because they don't work for the Family?

Response: Close, but incorrect.

Answer 3: Because... they don't have wings?

Response: Incorrect. Talons and Spiders can have wings.

Answer 4: Because not only do they not serve the Family directly, they do not practice the same traits, characteristics, and habits as Guardians. For instance, Guardians practice honesty. Spiders do not and cannot. Guardians practice selflessness. Spiders do not and cannot. Guardians practice secrecy when asked to. Talons do not and cannot. Etcetera.

Response: Correct.

When a Guardian is Chosen, they go through a ceremony: Sword Naming. The Superiors analyze them and the sword is named according to the emotional stability, mental characteristics, and magical relations of the Guardian.

The leaders of the Guardians are the Superiors, mentioned before. They are powerful Seers, all-seeing, and have orbs that are called "windows" in slang. These orbs allow them to see anything, anywhere, anytime, but they are easy to "fog over" or block.

Guardians are not allowed to have sexual affairs/get married. If they do get married and have children, it is because the Superiors willed it so and forced the Guardian to. Guardian sex is for procreation, not pleasure.

Guardians are known for, besides the traits and habits students practice in The Academy, their wings. Colors depend on the event that sets them off, but the most common color is black, for obvious reasons.

Guardians can be lifted to a higher rank by the angels (Protectors) or by the gods themselves (Superiors) if they deem them worthy/necessary.
