The Teddy Bear
The child comes home from school,
Hardly noticing that his friend has been waiting for him.
His Teddy Bear has been waiting in the
corner of the room for the last 8 years.
No more playing in the tree house,
pretending to live in the woods
like some ancient civilization.
No more being dragged on every road trip,
clutched tight in the hands of an eager youth,
waiting for his mom to start driving the car.
No more getting tossed around outside,
going to the ice cream shop
and pretending to share an ice cream cone.
No more snuggling in the bed at night,
listening to the goodnight story
and the soothing lullaby from the boy’s mom.
Now he sat in the corner,
one eye popped out of it’s socket, resting on it’s stomach,
slowly gaining cobwebs.
But still he waited,
in that same corner,
hoping that someone would play with him.
And from the eye that still remained,
A small tear rolled out and glimmered on the Teddy bear’s face.
