A World Away
A/N:
This was an idea Ihad about a solider who is away in a tragic war in the modern day, while his wife is home dealing with the normal day stresses such as a new baby that the solider has never even seen. This is going to be partly the letters they write back and forth to each other and the other will mostly be her heartache with him being gone. Hope you like it! Please review! I may or may not keep this going depending on what everyone thinks of this idea.
Chapter 1
David held his wife, Brooke, close and kissed her deeply as they twirled around on the dance floor. With grace and elegance she moved slightly in his arms, as the music played in the background.
It's Your Love (Tim McGraw with Faith Hill)
(Stephony Smith)
Dancin' in the dark
Middle of the night
Takin' your heart
And holdin' it tight
Emotional touch
Touchin' my skin
And askin' you to do
What you've been doin' all over again
Oh, it's a beautiful thing
Don't think I can keep it all in
I just gotta let you know
What it is that won't let me go
It's your love
It just does somethin' to me
It sends a shock right through me
I can't get enough
And if you wonder
About the spell I'm under
It's your love
Better than I was
More than I am
And all of this happened
By takin' your hand
And who I am now
Is who I wanted to be
And now that we're together
I'm stronger than ever
I'm happy and free
Oh, it's a beautiful thing
Don't think I can keep it all in, no
And if you asked me why I changed
All I gotta do is say your sweet name
It's your love
It just does somethin' to me
It sends a shock right through me
I can't get enough
And if you wonder
About the spell I'm under
It's your love
Oh, baby
Oh, it's a beautiful thing
Don't think I can keep it all in
I just gotta let you know
What it is that won't let me go
It's your love
It just does somethin' to me
It sends a shock right through me
I can't get enough
And if you wonder
About the spell I'm under
It's your love
It's your love
It's your love
“I love you,” he whispered in her ear his voice tickled her ear as she whispered the same words.
He pulled her away and she did a quick spin, her hair lifting off her shoulders slightly. “You look beautiful,” he said pulling her back into his arms and holding her closely to his chest, her back to him.
“Thank you,” she whispered back turning her head slightly to find his lips. Their lips met for only a second as he spun her outward again. Her laughter filled the room and his heart as he pulled her back and ran his hand along her cheek. The slight action of his hand along her cheek sent chills up her spine.
He dipped her down, still holding her tight, her black heel pointed slightly in the air. The black satin of her gown felt wonderful against his hands. “Do you really have to go,” she asked as he pulled her back up.
She placed her cheek against his as the slowly moved to the slow music. She swayed beautiful in his arms, but ever so slightly. “Yes, I can’t run away from the Army now can I?”
“Maybe they won’t notice that you are gone,” she said a hint of laughter in her voice. Her fingers found the back of his neck and she rang her fingers tips along his hair line, the motion sending chills down his spine. “I don’t want you to go!”
“Let’s not think about that now, just enjoy the night.” He stopped dancing and pulled back slightly so he could look at her beautiful face. “What’s wrong,” she asked looking at him with concern.
He didn’t speak, but brought his lips to hers in an Earth shaking kiss that left them both wanting more. “I don’t want this to end,” she said pulling away her lips mere inches away from his.
“Me neither,” he said taking her lips again in a kiss more powerful than before.
Brooke awoke to a lonely and cold bed the next morning. The night before seemed like a faded dream until she found a note lying across her husband’s pillow; his beautiful hand writing spelled out her name across the front. She quickly opened it and began reading.
To My Beautiful Wife,
You looked so peaceful lying there with your hair in a mess across the white satin sheets. I could not wake you with the sad news that I was leaving. I hope you are not mad because I am leaving.
I am doing what I feel is right and if in making that decision I have hurt you I hope you will forgive me. It is my duty to my country and to everyone who lives in that country, including you, to protect that country from harm.
I know your feelings about war, I know that you think it is stupid and you don’t understand why people should die, but there is a purpose for what I am doing. Please don't worry about me, because I will be fine, but if something should happen I hope you will remember me always, in only the best of memories.
The memories of last night will keep me going while I am over here. Knowing I have you to come to will stay with me always. I end my letter with my love!
Yours truly,
David
