Empty Fulfillment

I saw an empty piece of paper and knew it needed words.

And as I sat down to help fill the open page,

I didn’t have to look far to find a lonesome friend.

What a pair they make.

Beautiful together, and so lost apart.

(I almost want to weep for those who don’t follow)

As I walked about in the rain a saddened flower falling from my ear,

I drew the attention of a black winged butterfly,

And not far after followed a white winged dragonfly.

What a pair they make,

So different to look at,

But a peaceful melody follows them.

(Why do all stare at them? At least they are happy.)

I think have become part of a movement,

One only few find exotic enough to be fun.

If we all just understood each other better,

We might be as beautiful as the pen and paper

Or the dragonfly and the butterfly.

All so different,

But work so well together.

(Maybe we should follow their examples…or not.)

Why follow a lonesome pen and blank page?

Why follow two inevitably lost souls in sin?

Maybe its best to go with your own flow,

But I know you’ll end up like one of them.

(Your all so lost, so far past saving. Why do I even try?)
