The Doctor is In

Case no. 1: The Woes of Growing Up.

Every class has its own wide range of social specimens, from the widely acclaimed popular girls to the squeaky geeks who sat in the front row. It's common belief that this social divider starts in high-school. Well, I for one, oppose that concept. I believe that the whole notion starts in kindergarten itself. Remember that kid who bullied the other ones around? He grows up to be a hotshot soccer player, the most popular jock at school. And what happens to the spectacled kid who quietly scribbles away the English alphabets? He becomes destined to be the computer whiz of tomorrow, a multi-millionaire who created the world's first electronic remote control toilet flusher.

In rare cases, do the fates get interchanged. But we are not here to discuss that particular issue. What we are here to discuss is actually about one particular category. Not clear yet?

Alright, remember the girl with the weird pony-tail, the one who always sat in the back row, the one who had these snake-like eyes which followed your every move and sent shivers down your spine..

Yes, I am talking about the 'weird one'.

So, let's study this particular category in detail.

They start off as quite ordinary kids in kindergarten. Occasionally, there are always signs of 'weird behavior' including the occasional dozing off in class, falling into the drain and chasing smaller boys. See. That's where all the problem starts. Their growth hormone goes into overdrive, making them unimaginably taller than the rest. This in no way improves their social standing.

"Teacher, teacher, she hit me!"

"Ignore her, Kris."

"But teacher, she hit me again!"

When they enter junior school, the above qualities remain in their system. They confine themselves to the the last row of the class, frequently throwing erasers at their classmates and act like goody-two-shoes. They are the same ones with the weird sense of humor and who avoid attention at all costs. So, if the teacher were to say, "Hmm. Who wants to sign up for the dances?" then you will probably find our specimen cowering behind her best friend.

If the girl does get selected (due to the evil dance teacher), she is always given the role of a wild Tarzan. She is made to wear a skirt with green leaves pinned to it. Now if that wasn't enough, the teacher also makes her hobble and do the hula dance while the pretty girls get to be angels. The initial traces of insane attitude can be easily observed here. Thankfully, our specimen will make an oath to never take part in extra curricular activities again.

"Hey did you see her in the green leaved costume?"

"Yup, it was so hilarious. She makes a good wild tribal."

"Um-guys, I can hear you," our specimen says.

When she goes off to high school, there is an astonishing raise in her social standing. The girl is no longer an outsider. Though still quiet, in some strange way she is the one people talk about. Known for her sarcasm and the usual witty humor, people are drawn to her. Other students come up to her and let out secrets that should never be known. Like how Mr. X dumped Miss. Y, like how Miss. Y feels inferior, like how Mr. XY is having these new feelings for the members of the same sex.

"You have to help me out!"

"Why?"

"Because you are the only one who doesn't belong to any group. My secrets will stay safe with a nobody like you."

"Is that supposed to be a compliment?"

Ahem. And so moving on to the qualities about our specimen.

She suddenly find herself becoming popular for all the strange reasons. No, she isn't a pretty one or good at sports. But she is a good listener. And that's why the people of the upper as well as the lower classes of high school, find themselves standing in line to get her noble advice.

And the best part of all? She enjoys it.

With new found courage, she participated in the 'Creative Writing Contest' of the tenth grade and won the second prize. She was voted as the person most likely to succeed after getting out of school. So, with a big inflated ego, she stepped into the huge wild world.. ready to take on the competitive monsters..

I bet all of you are wondering what happened to her?

Our specimen has just got into college to do her first year course in biotechnology. The only sad fact is that she continues to live with her mother even at this age.

So, that finishes my case study on 'The Rise and Fall of the Weird Girl at School'. I would love to elaborate on this special category but sadly time doesn't permit me. Wait.. I can hear my mother calling me.. What, ma? Oh the commercial is over? I'll be right there.

The psychological doctor has finished her essay and is no longer in. If you have any comments, please hit the grey button at the bottom. Yes ma, I am coming!
