It seems like I have traveled down this path forever

Me and my mount

Fighting the landscape

We have traveled aimlessly

Having lost the road

The sun beats down on our heads

Shifting dunes hide our path

The sand burns our eyes

The sun burns our backs

Thirst burns our throats

We trudge on not knowing where we were or where we go

I take a drink

The canteen dry

At night the clouds do not weep

They only hide the stars

Which way am I going?

My mount stumbles and lies still

The sand shifts

I fall

How much further can I stand this waste

I shall lie here I shall die

No

I must go on

There are people who would want it so

I stand up

I walk forward

Move ever forward

Move on alone

I crawl over the rise

I witness beauty

Water shifts before me

An oasis in this plain of anguish

I drink and I move on

I cannot stop

I must move ever forward

My foot strikes stone

My eyes find pavement beneath my feet

A path

Whose was it before?

If it was someone’s before

I do not know

All that matters is now

It is mine
