The Wolves

They speak without words,
With flattened ears and wary eyes,
They watch through the fences of their cage.
To be free once more is denied to them,
And they are forced to dwell,
Where human eyes must watch and pry.
They live and they breathe,
Everything human.
What happened to the endless fields?
The forests of trees that gave them shade?
What happened to the hunt?
What happened to the sparkling brook,
Where the young were brought to drink?
Where are the clear skies?
Where is all the life,
In this dull concrete forest,
The wolves call home?
