old withered fingers

intertwined (each other)

and the prejudice they’ve faced

for oh-so-very long.

first:

it’s that the girl is

black and her love is

white, and that is just

oh-so-wrong…’

second:

is that

the black girl,

loves that

white girl,

with all of her

heart and her soul

and her living breathing

life.

they’ve gone this far

without corroding

(historical monument;

do not destroy,

mutilate.

violate.)

and now their fingers,

withered from the battles,

garnished with white lines

(scars)

black lines

(demerits)

they walk.
