Truckloads of eyeliner hide her green eyes

She feels like she’s wearing some kind of disguise

Wearing a blouse with some buttons undone

If she wants his attention, she can’t be a nun

Shivering, praying he’ll look her way

If he does, it’ll all be okay

One look from him and she’ll be on Cloud Nine

Where it’s lovely and warm and the weather is fine

He asks a question, up goes her hand

If he picks her, it would be simply grand

He looks around, turns his head…

And says another girl’s name instead.

Her hand drops to the desk, limp and defeated

She glares at her rival, thank goodness she’s seated

So far away, and unaware

That her classmate is in the depths of despair

She’s in love with a teacher, how totally sad

She’s writing his name all over her notepad

At lunch, she can try and forget her sorrow

With chocolate chip muffins, and try again tomorrow.
