Shana hit the thug hard in his back, knocking him senseless before leaping off to chase after his partner. She knew Kel was somewhere behind her, probably reprimanding her brusque attacks under his breath, but she didn’t care. She only cared about catching these guys. Catching them and making them suffer as she had by their hands. She hopped from spire to spire along the great church with ease, keeping steady watch all around for the enemy. She stopped at the Northern corner of the structure and scanned the scene below. The chill winter wind blew her coat all about as her dark hair fought to be released from the clip holding it captive. Shana shivered. It was raining lightly, which would have been strange if she had taken the time to think about it, considering the Cold London air could not have possibly been -6 degrees Celsius – perfect conditions for snow. And yet it was raining. But what more could one expect? This was the night of the new moon; this was Doom Squad Patrol night.

Somewhere in the distance Big Ben chimed midnight and Shana’s heart sank. She could hear Kel running towards her as the cold rain soaked through her thick coat. She could hear his panting and the stutter in his breathing as he too shivered from the cold. She saw the fiend’s partner run up to Deiderick and give his report. She saw Deiderick consider this then slay his messenger fiend before vanishing. She felt Kel by her side as her power drained into the night.

“No doubt he’s gone off to make love to that monster Desdemona,” Kel was staring hard at the dark place in which Deiderick had been standing only moments before. “Don’t worry, we’ll get him next time” Kel turned and smiled at Shana, but she could not return the gesture.

“We have to get off this spire…” She started, but Kel pulled her back and held her close.

“Don’t worry… It’s a pretty short jump, just relax a moment and enjoy the scenery, why don’t you?” Kel was staring into the city lights, completely ignoring Shana’s struggles. “Shh… Look,”

Kel pointed to the East as Shana began to settle down and the rain began to stop. She followed his eyes until she saw as he did. He was pointing at the Palace, where a brilliant display of fireworks was going on.

“How lucky can get? Do you realize that nobody else can see the Queen’s display as we do? Here we can see the very essence of each and every spark that flies from those fireworks. We can see how each one is made, and its purpose… Do you know what that purpose is Shana? I know you do, you see as I do…” Kel was stroking the back of her head now, whispering in her ear. She’d always considered him strange and insolent, but now – now he was something else, something she refused to admit him being. “Shana… I’m waiting, what is the purpose? … Shana—“

Shana stood up abruptly, almost losing her footing, “They are calling us back, we must go.” Her face was hard and serious, business-like.

“Children, Shana. Their purpose is to make children happy” Kel looked at her with a grave defiance, knowing what this statement would bring. Sure enough, Shana whorled around to face him; she was livid.

“SHUTUP!!” She screamed at him, her voice cracking, tears pouring down the sides of her face. “Don’t you ever talk about CHILDREN to ME!! Don’t you EVER!!”

She was screaming at him, tears flowing like water. She had gotten close enough that he could see each and every pore tighten with the anger. He could think of only one way to placate her.

“Don’t pretend you know anything about---” Shana stopped mid-sentence as Kel locked lips with her, the color draining from her face. When he released her she could say nothing. She could do nothing. She could only sit there, pale and helpless just like before as her body was violated. Only Kel didn’t go as far as those men had that night, he only quieted her.

“I know you miss your daughter, but I promise you, Miss Faulkner, that I will do everything in my power to help you get revenge on the men responsible.” Kel looked her stern in the eye, and held her there frozen “But you have to trust me first. Trust me and learn to let go. Only when you do that can I help you catch them.”

Shan nodded slowly and spoke, “I will trust you”

“Good. But now we must go, we have but a few minutes to return to HQ, else we may be in serious trouble" Kel stood and smiled, offering his hand to Shana, who was still crouched on the roof, knees buckled. “Coming Love?”

Shana looked up at him and smiling through her tears she said "I will always come for you"
