I am the Masked Bannana! And I will be victorious!! I did not steal this. It is mine! So read and review my first serious fic.
I was inspired to action by Band of Brothers, so I wrote this piece of junk! Lune is the moon just so you know.
The threatening night closes around my home. I am a veteran of the war. That is all I will tell you now.
One
I was sitting down on the front porch of my parents home one day a long time ago when the world exploded. The moon was sitting in the sky serenely and floating its path across the heavens, batting stars out of its way like pebbles before a rushing stream. The town rushing around my conscious self with relative normality.
Mother was watching a vid in the living room of the high political tension between the inhabited planets of the Solar System. It scared her, she later said, that the System could go to such lengths to have a war. It was as though they wanted to fight each other.
As darkness crept on we saw the great lunar metropolis of Kenrith. But something unusual was drawing many peoples attention from their nightly routines to gaze at it and their vid-feeds.
It was burning.
No one could actually see more than a different hue to its glow, but people with telescopes gazed easily upon the horror. Screams of ‘buring! It is burning!’ were everywhere. The war of utter Vengeance would begin shortly after this, as earth declared war on Mars, as did the rest of the great industrial cities of Lune. The Colonial Government, circling earth, followed suit against Mars, but also against Jupiter, knowing that its allies of Lune and Earth would follow it wherever it led them.
And so the most peaceful, and possibly most powerful, of planetary bodies was drawn into the war.
If that had been all, the war would have been a simple bloodletting, easing population and resource consumption, but all sides committed unspeakable war crimes. The Earth and Colonial Powers were used against each other. Three separate colonies came screaming through the atmosphere to crash into the Earth during the course of the war.
I survived that one, but I was lucky. I remember signing to the Planetary Space Force shortly after the Great War of Lune was ended. I had gone to a recognized star flight academy on Lune and came back home to enlist. My outfit was the 332nd Fighter Corps. and I was the star pilot shortly after completing my initial training in a Cobber XSe Sf/A 121.
The Cobber was normally a small, one seated, ship resembling an X-wing from an ancient movie known as Star Wars. It was sleeker and its wings were stuck in the X configuration. The Sf/A (Star fighter/Artillery) configuration was a bit larger and had a very powerful long range cannon attached to the rear between the two engines. It was a very versatile ship, as it could fire a good long volley against an enemy ship then shell it as it flew away.
I was in the Space Forces for ten years before the Godsend War began. It was about a group of over religious zealots of the dilapidated Christian faith. They were terrorizing the Colonies of Jupiter and Earth for two years, all the time massing a fleet and an army to attack Lune. We did nothing to stop them except defend the Earth Colonies.
They took control of all of the colonies of Jupiter and began menacing Mars and Lune. They kept no contact with any major powers except to tell us they had caught such and such spies or had attacked here or were behind this or that terror bombing.
The first real battle came when a fleet of ships, a detached squadron of the E fleet, en route to Mars to bolster our forces there, was destroyed. When we heard of the massacre we were, as if it couldn’t be guessed, absolutely outraged by the idea, even though Mars had once been our mortal enemy.
We received orders to deploy to mars to defend fleet positions there and possibly cut into the flank of whatever fleet was cutting us off from it. Complete loss of contact occurred three hours after the massacre of the E fleet battle group.
The war was begun. Gods save Mother Earth.
Try and put a bit of a grave mood into your head as you read this fic please, there may be cheerful parts to it but it is war we are speaking of and war is hell. Period.
Anyway, I like this story, after the flop from hell of my last one I hope this will do good, R&R or be shot by my death ray eyes!
