sun-beaten days craving shade
and no place to go for shelter
walking on shards of yesterday
want to lay my head down on forever
why, soul curled up on the floor, why
can't I reach solace? it's on the book's
next page, denied a bending low
to take up sweet coolness
why can't I hear you calling
when I've fallen to the ground
as ice runs through my veins
nothing permeates these walls
though I'm looking everywhere
for some hideaway respite
thrown far from whispers of darkness
