My Happy Place

My heart ways heavily with

Burdens of my own make.

Each night I lie in bed turning them

Over and over till my heart near breaks.

If I were to give my heart away,

Let the one who earns it, lift

My burdens, brush them away,

It is my heart’s dearest wish.

Find me my happy place

In thy arms, in a warm embrace,

The same that makes my forehead smooth

And gives my eyes a glance of grace,

That they be dry for a moment more

Then thou may trample on my broken heart

Again, or more, but let it be uplifted,

Just a bit, for my sanity’s part.

This poem is dedicated to the boy I like, the boy I know better than to like, and to the boy who broke my heart when I thought it was already broken. It’s sad that all three are the same boy.

Thank you Vaughn, you gave me back my smile when I thought I could smile no more, but you made me cry too, and I know you don’t know it. I found my happy place in your arms, love, but I knew it wasn’t forever.
