Chapter Two- Stupid Cupid

Lixue Dixie ran over to Adriana, her straight black hair flying. Her black eyes, with a hint of purple, sparkled with excitement.

“Adriana!!!” Lixue called out happily. “Guess what!”

Adriana smiled, glad that her best friend isn’t sad anymore. “You got a boyfriend?” She teased.

Lixue blushed, “of course not! The surprise is that 25 students from the whole school would be chosen to go to France & Italy during the Winter Break!!”

Adriana gasped, “FRANCE & ITALY?!” Lixue nodded, and both of them start jumping up and down.

“You are forgetting something.” A voice said amusedly. It was Ryan, and he was watching with humor at the sight of the two eager girls.

“She did?” Adriana asked, her voice a bit cold.

“Yup.” Ryan said, smirking. “Five of the students would be chosen by art teachers, determining their artistic talent. The other twenty would be chosen in an audition. The best twenty singers/actors would be re-filming a movie throughout the whole year, with artistic help by the five talented artists. The award of being part of it is the honor, being on-screen, and a paid trip to France & Italy during Winter Break.”

“I always love France and Italy! It’s always beautiful there, especially during the winter.” Adriana said dreamily.

“And romantic!” Lixue added, smiling. “Hopefully I would be one of the chosen ones for artistic talent.

“Oh, don’t worry, you’ll certainly be one of them. But as for me, I’m definitely auditioning!” Adriana said, her eyes shining with determination.

“France guys have cute accent!” Lixue said, so unlike herself.

“Yup. Just wish that the guys that are chosen wouldn’t be weird or anything bad. After all, spending the whole break with weirdoes?! Yickes!” Adriana muttered. And Ryan grinned, Yes! Another way to annoy her! I’m so auditioning!

“Jase! You would accept if they choose you for your art. Right?” Adriana asked, turning toward the lone figure sitting on the sofa, busy drawing.

“Well… I really don’t care much about it.” Jase said thoughtfully, his face impassive though.

“C’mon! I’m going! And you would want to protect Miss. Christmas here, won’t you?” Ryan exclamined. Adriana raised an eyebrow at the nickname, but made no comment, waiting for Jase’s answer. After all, Jase and Adriana’s feeling for each other are like siblings; it won’t be fun not to have the other around.

“I guess it could be fun. Sure.” He said nonchalantly and sat in one of the armchair. Adriana clapped her hands in delight, then…

“Hold on! Ryan. Don’t tell me you are trying out.” Adriana said suspiciously.

Ryan messed his untamable hair up and smiled cheekily. “Okay. I won’t tell you.”

“Ryan!” she barked, her eyes glaring daggers at him.

“I’m auditioning. I’m so irresistible that they would never dare not to pick me.” He proclaimed cockily.

Before Adriana could say anything, Lixue cut in happily. “That’s great! When is the audition anyway?”

“Tomorrow morning. Prepare a song to sing or an act to perform.” Ryan said promptly, earning a look from Jase.

“Oh my!! Adriana! You need to get ready!!” Lixue cried worriedly. Adriana rolled her eyes. “Why do I need to prepare?” But allowed herself to be dragged away.

--------------------------

“Okay. This concluded the audition. The results would be-“ One of the judges begun. Then the door banged open and Adriana ran in.

“I’m so sorry. I had a meeting with my Literacy’s teacher about entering my work into a contest. Is the audition over?” Adriana asked worriedly, and the judge that was speaking looked at her sternly.

“I hope you do realized that if you are chosen, the show has to be the most important thing to you.” He said sternly. Adriana nodded rapidly and he sighed. “Okay. Adriana Rose Ashby, the eighty-five auditioner. Song or Act?”

“Song. Stupid Cupid by Mandy Moore” Adriana said, smiling slightly as she noticed the restless crowd waiting for the conclusion.

The judges scribbled a few things and looked up expectedly at Adriana. She handed them the CD and got on stage.

Adriana started dancing and singing, her talent clearly shown. The judges nodded their approval as they listen, the crowds clapped along.

Stupid Cupid you're a real mean guy,
I'd like to clip your wings off so you can't fly.
I am in love and it's crying shame
& I know that you're the one to blame!
Hey hey, set me free
Stupid Cupid, stop picking on me.

I can't do my homework and I can't think straight
I meet him every morning, 'bout a half past eight.
I'm actin' like a lovesick fool.
You even got me carryin' his books to school
hey hey, set me free
Stupid Cupid, stop picking on me.
You mixed me up for good right from the very start.
Hey, go play Robin Hood, with somebody else's heart.

You've got me jumpin' like a crazy clown,
and I don't feature what you're putting down.
Since I kissed his loving lips of wine,
the thing that bothers me is that I like it fine
hey hey, set me free.
Stupid Cupid, stop picking on me.”

The music continued on, and the crowds cheered. Adriana accidentally found Ryan eyes and saw a hint of humor and confusion. She glared at him and smiled at the crowd.

You've got me jumpin' like a crazy clown,
and I don't feature what you're putting down.
Hey since I kissed his loving lips of wine,
The thing that bothers me is that I like it fine.
Hey, hey. Set me free
Stupid cupid stop picking on me.
Hey hey, Set me free
Stupid cupid, stop picking on me.

Adriana gave a huge dazzling smile and bowed, carefully avoiding Ryan’s eyes as she got off the stage and sat down. The judges grinned and made a note on their papers.

“Therefore that completed the audition. The movie the chosen ones would be re-filming would be Fox’s Anastasia. If anyone want to withdraw, come up.” The speaking judge paused, looking at the students. Nobody stood up, so he continued. “The filming would begin after Winter Break. The twenty chosen ones and their part would be posted on the board in the Great Hall a week before Winter Break, along with the five chosen artistic students. That’s all. You are free to go.”

--------------------------

Weeks and weeks passed, and everything seemed normal. School works became so much that everyone seems to be avoiding each other, which is perfectly fine. But anyone would know that good things never last. So of course, something bad must eventually comes. It did, as Winter Break begun to arrive, eager students starts to lost concentrations in school. Then it started. The chaos.

“The results!” A girl screamed, and then everyone started rushing toward the Great Hall. Adriana stared, confused.

“Adriana!! The 25 chosen ones! It’s posted up there! Let’s go!” Lixue screamed over the noises, pulling Adriana toward the board.

A few feet away from the board, as people began to noticed Adriana and Lixue. Everybody became quiet, too quiet, as they cleared the way for her. Only a few tiny sobs could be heard. Then Ryan walked by, his face smirking, almost laughing, only warned Adriana that something is very wrong.

I didn’t get the part; I bet that’s it! Oh my! I knew I should never audition! Ryan would never stop teasing me now! Adriana thought worriedly as she trailed her finger along the result notice on the board, searching for her name, dreading as her finger slowly reach the end of the sheet. Then she spotted it, relieved, she glanced at the part she’s assigned, and gasped.

Adriana Rose Ashby - ANYA

“YIPPIE!” Adriana screamed, jumping up and down. Her face brightened up, jumping up and down. “Anya is my favorite character in the movie! She kind of reminded me of myself.”

“YAY! I’m chosen for art!” Lixue said happily, and both of them hugged, jumping together.

“But wait. Why was Ryan smirking then?” Adriana asked thoughtfully, and then suddenly, a horrible thought occurred to her. Quickly, she turned back toward the board searching for his name.

Ryan Dylan Ben Kerr - DMITRI

Author's Notes

If you guys watched Fox’s Anastasia, then you would understand what the smirk was for. If you don't know, wait and see. And be sure to watch Anastasia! It's really a wonderful cartoon-ish movie.

In future chapters, you would find out why Adriana dislike Ryan, the total reason. And how she is kind of like Anya.
