When the wind blows
soft and steady,
ripe grass -
hay -
waves and
undulates across
the prairie.
But cattails have
a different, harder sound.
With them, the wind
grows harsher.
And the leaves on a
dead cottonwood
rattle like death,
or a snake,
and shiver in the wind.
