Doubting Death”

By: Robert Q. McAlister

This is about a strong woman with cancer who never gave up without a fight.

I once knew some one,

who doubted many things, like her death or what a doctor says.

For when she was 21,

And her Cancer began to spread,

The wise doctor said,

“If you’re lucky you’ll live,

Maybe five more years.”

She, however, fought off the cancer in less the time said she would live.

Cancer struck again,

And spread deeper this time,

The wise doctor said,

“You’ll live seven more years,

And at your state you will never have children.”

The woman warrior in shining armor, pulled through yet again!

A valiant win, gave birth to two kids, and showed the wise doctor, once again!

A true mother she was, working insanely hard, to raise them to cope and be hardy like her!

Cancer once more!

Much stronger than before!

So it seemed at first no harm,

Then she became bald,

And her bones came weak,

To the point were walking made her legs break.

My mother aided the great heroine,

To live as long as the heroine could.

Her bones came weaker,

And bones were broken,

Simply lifting her into bed.

Paralysis later came, still she fought.

But that is not all that makes her honor shine,

It is that when it was time to let go, she loosened her grasp.

And she knew that she would go down,

But she knew that she went down with a most admirable fight.

In Loving memory of Mrs. Kathy Batalato
