Ocean Lullaby

The sounds of a weed-clogged lake

Slapping a flattened beach

Transformed in the ears of a wide-eyed child

Into the sweet music of a diamond ocean

Kissing golden shores

The child stands at the window

Small fingerprints smeared on the glass

She sees the sun sinking

Sees the air turn lavender with dusk

Then royal blue with night

She wonders as she prepares for sleep

Will the peaceful waves stay with her?

Will they croon gentle lullabies to sweeten her dreams?

Or will they rest in slumber

Leaving her with only the silence and the dark?
