Lost at Sea by the-key-of-the-twilight
A/N: Yea! This is a new story and I’ve been dying to write this for some time! (Oh boy, another story to get writer’s block on! :sweatdrops: ) Alright, here we go!
Full Summary: Elizabeth Agate, the young spoiled 16-year-old daughter of two late aristocrats, is sent away to the magical seaside town of Angard to live with a family who will take care of her for the rest of her life. In Angard, almost nothing is unexpected. Flying ships, talking dogs, and even two-headed plants are considered perfectly normal in this odd place. Of course, adjusting from a glorious mansion in the hills to an old cramped house near the sea is not going to be that easy…
He could never forget. The day when the sea was calm and the sky was a myriad of different hues. He remembered standing tall on a rocky cliff, allowing the salty air to blow through his dark raven hair and feeling the pleasurable spray of water from afar. His arms were spread out like the wings of an eagle and he breathed in the fresh aroma of the ocean. He could taste salt on his lips, the true taste of the sea. And he felt the cool breeze run through his fingers.
His passionate crimson eyes brightened and he cocked his head toward the rising sun. Far away, in the distance, an indistinct object appeared within the mist. His eyes narrowed, trying to decipher the figure far ahead. His hand shielded his eyes.
Large, bright white flowing objects could be seen now. They seemed to be in the shape of sails. He stepped forward and raised his hand. He was sure of it. It was his father’s ship! At last! He waved happily from excitement even though he knew that his father would not be able to see.
Cheerfully, he skillfully jumped down the cliff, stumbled a bit, and ran toward the nearest harbor. His breathing quickened as he was running. Even as he got tired, he pushed himself to keep running. It had been three long and lonely years since he had seen his father and Gloria. He was certainly not going to miss the chance to welcome his father and Gloria back home.
The few people at the harbor stared at him curiously, but greeted him. He ran to the dock and waited as the figure in the distance came closer and closer. A man came behind him and his eyes widened. He spun back and shouted in alert to the others. Quickly, the men assembled all they needed to prepare for the ship’s arrival and then silently waited.
First, brilliant white sails could be made out. Then, as the ship came closer to view, the whole ship could be seen. It looked just as new as it had three years ago! The luminous gold paint around the edges of the ship was still there and the wood looked just as novel. The wings of the ship had not lost their luster and the ship did not looked damaged in any way.
However, even though everything looked fine, he had a suspicion that something was wrong. He didn’t know what it was. It was just an awful feeling. He tried to ignore it the best he could since he didn’t want to ruin this day, but the feeling made him a bit uncomfortable. Something just wasn’t right…
The ship had come quite close to the dock and he saw that a man was waving at him. It was his father! His whole face brightened and he waved back, grinning. As the ship neared the harbor, it slowed down a bit. Then, finally, it ceased movement.
By now, several families had gathered around him, looking anxiously at the ship and waving at their sons. Happily, he ran toward the ship as soon as he was allowed on. He skipped about, searching for his father at the head of the ship.
He gave a cry of joy as he ran up to his father and embraced him. He grinned and looked up at his father’s reaction. His father smiled back, but to the son’s surprise, it was not a complete smile of happiness. It was also a smile of sadness. The man took a hold of his son’s hand and started to lead him.
The two went down steps and past rooms until they finally stopped at their destination. His father hesitantly twisted the doorknob and led his son inside. Several people seemed to be crowding over a bed and as they saw the both of them, they stepped aside.
His ruby eyes widened in shock. All of a sudden, he felt weak, as if all his strength was sapped out of him the moment he saw what was before him. Right in front of him was a bed with a girl laying completely still. Her golden hair was braided and adorned with red satin ribbons. She wore a beautiful cream-colored dress and in her hands she held her favorite flowers, irises. However, what haunted him the most was how peaceful and tranquil she looked. Her face expression was soft and gentle. And flowers surrounded her.
His father frowned and looked at his son who was staring in awe. He let go of his father’s hand, fell to his knees, and water came to his eyes before he knew it. His heart ached.
“Gloria…”
