I like to look at you

Even if only in my dreams,

So I can remember the little things

Like the shape of your face

Or the grip of your hand around mine.

The way life rustles through the tree overhead

As their branches buck and sway

Make each step more difficult

Though the thunder rumbles in the distance,

There is the sun outside.

I hold you close in a corner of my mind

Where I won’t have to move;

It would be all too hard to get up.

After all you’ve done for me,

I feel too small and imperfect next to you

Though you’re hardly perfect yourself.

I have cried out for you numerous times in my dreams

And you’ve come to still the frothing tide.

You’ve no idea how much you mean to me

And somehow, I’m okay with that:

It makes my love for you like a pearl,

Encased in a shell, making it even rarer.

If you can, please,

Come here and drop the pain

(pain is a four letter word; i know).

Author’s Notes: The one who this is intended for knows who he/she is. (I know the grammar in that sentence looks funny; blame my English teacher.)
