Apparition Mask

Chapter 4

Thousands upon thousands of gallons of water poured through what I thought was the edge of our city. I wasn’t sure what to feel at that moment. Dumbfounded, I sat there and watched as the rushing water drew nearer and nearer, silencing all the fires in its way. With a new found amazement I stood up and began to slowly walk away, my eyes not leaving the waterfall that poured into our high voltage city.

The lights overhead began to flicker as the lights by the glassy edge were already out. I could hardly hear the cracking sound of the glass over the huge rush of water. I was so entranced in all the damage this mysterious water was causing that I didn’t even realize how close the water was coming to me. It wasn’t until my feet were ankle deep in the water that I looked up and saw the huge wave yet to come.

But I wasn’t able to look for long, before I knew it I was pulled off my feet and into the air, hurdling towards the dark waterfall. I wasn’t sure what had hold of me but whatever it was it was so tight that I could not move a inch. I felt mist from the water below me spray on my face, but kept my eyes closed shut in fear of what was to happen next. I could hear the buzzing of electricity fizz and the rushing water grow louder.

It then felt reasonably cooler. I managed to open one eye and gawked in surprise opening my other. Whatever had hold of me was carrying me to the opening. I squirmed, trying to wring my way out. We dropped altitude getting closer to the whole gushing with water.

What happened next I don’t quite remember. I remember hearing more glass break and freezing water surrounding me. And then it was quiet. Pure silence. I opened my eyes only for them to meet a vast water wasteland, the thing that took hold of me gone. A problem arose when I realized I couldn’t breath and started kicking my legs and swinging my arms. A second problem arose: I couldn’t swim.

In this moment I began to accept the fact that I was going to drown. And to tell you the truth, I didn’t really care, I had nothing else to live for. I began to sink lower and relax into the bitter nothingness of this gigantic sea. That is where I would’ve stayed, until I felt someone grip me.

I was too far into oblivion in my mental state to understand what happened next. I don’t remember much, just that before I knew it I was sputtering water and shivering. It was so cold, it felt like my bones had turn to ice. Off in the distance I could hear cursing, I paid no attention to it though, just wrapped my arms around myself turning on my side freezing my butt off. I didn’t even want to open my eyes. I couldn’t get my mind off of the though of icy coldness that consumed me.

I heard something heavy drop and make a weird sound and then a loud grunt.

“Stupid kid! Can’t even swim! What good is he to lug with us anyways?” said one voice, sounding like it was going away.

“Shhh, you know we couldn’t back down from this so quit whining.” Said a more feminine voice, closer then the rugged one.

Their voices began to fade and become blurred as a held onto myself. I couldn’t feel anything and before I knew it, it was dark.

To be continued…
