It has happened
Thanks to Hilary Clinton and Jack Thompson, ESRB has forced Rockstar North and Take-Two to change the rating of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas from M to AO.
The change to an Adults Only rating, which puts this game in the same classification as porno movies, came from the "Hot Coffee" mod.
In the game, after a girlfriend reaches a certain point with you, she asks you inside for some "hot coffee", which turns out to be a night of wild sex. While you can hear the sounds of the actions taking place, you cannot see anything.
However, Rockstar apparently planned on having a minigame where you chose how to have sex, and allowed you to see everything. They eventually chose not to finish it, and took out the scenes, but left in the source code. Because of this, hackers were able to use third party software to use the code to finish what Rockstar didn't. This is available as a mod for computer owners, and a cheat on Gameshark, Codebreaker, and Action Replay Max for console players.
Jack Thompson is a lawyer who has been hounding the series since day one of the realese of Grand Theft Auto 3. He blasted the games, calling them "unsuitable for children" and other spiel similar to Hilary Clinton and Joe Lieberman's arguements. This mod/cheat has given Thompson a new reason to argue agaist the games. Along with Hilary Clinton, they managed to change the rating. I believe that them talking to ESRB about this was a plan by them to get the game banned in major retailers, and thus difficult to get.
This is absurd. Rockstar chose not to put the minigame in, as they wanted to attract a bigger audience of players. All raunchy content has been caused by hackers who illegaly changed the game. While mods are standard for Grand Theft Auto games, with players creating new vehicles, buildings, even whole new games with modding tools, what the hackers did was illegal, as they unlocked a part of the game that Rockstar never meant for anyone to see.
How does ESRB justify the huge change in rating? Have they ever considered the many X-rated mods for other games, like The Sims, and Tomb Raider(which have mods that make Lara Croft and Sims nude)? If they wish to take action against this game, then by all means, TAKE ACTION AGAINST EVERYRTHING ELSE YOU BASTARDS!
Sorry, my rage got the better of me. I'm just so damn pissed at ESRB for believing the crap spewed by the idiots against this game. What's next? Someone makes another mod for nude Sims, and that game goes from T to AO?
I have a little idea. Call up the ESRB! Tell them, that you will not stand for this! Make them understand that Thompson and Clinton have brainwashed them into doing just what they wanted! Get San Andreas back to it's M rating! I detest, a single mod putting this game into the same section of stores with the porn! DOWN WITH THE BRAINWASHING!!
