The Light at the End of the Tunnel
by Siberia

Note: My re-working of a quote on The Creatures' "Anima Animus" album.

for eons, you've wandered
in this pitch black tunnel
stumbling and tripping
in the staleness of its air
hearing only the noise
of your clumsy failures
your feet shuffling
in random directions
blind to any track
life may have forged for you

then on one fateful day
you see a flicker of light
there, in the distance
breaking through the darkness
hope and destiny combined
in a radiant glow

your lungs now draw in breath
as if given by
an immortal god
granting you vigour
you never knew could be real
you bolt towards the source
ready to embrace
the future lying ahead

"i'll make it! i'll soon be free!"
your eyes shriek madly
believing that they've never
beheld anything
so awe-inspiring

but moments later
blood drains from your face
you stop dead in your tracks
realizing too late
that only the rumble
within your ears had
spoken the ugly truth:
"no, you idiot!
listen! it's the sound
of the approaching train!"
