Where I Started From

Back at the beginning

In the quiet little room

Where I held my conversations

In the beauty of the night

I remember seeing you

Standing there, smiling back

At me, hand outstretched

In that friendly way

That onlyyou can have

I left it behind

And I set out away

A course for fortune

And love and fame

She was all I needed

And we lit up the sky

With brilliant reflections

In the quiet moonlight

But a simple ripple spread

Out from the center of my peace

And as it moved across the waters

Our reflection became distorted

As did we ourselves

And I found myself standing

All alone in the melting snow

Of my wonderland of love

So now I’m back where I started from

In my quiet room on my quiet night

Staring at the outstretched hand

And the happy, lopsided grin

For I had forgotten that

Just as you said

You would always be there for me

And that’s why you’re my friend.
