Kevin was just about to enter Freeman's when e heard someone yelling out his name. Turning around, he saw Hannah running over to him. "Hey Kevin! Wait here, I gotta get my tennis racquet!"
"You play tennis? Trey said you just wanted to watch tennis guys," Kevin muttered, blushing.
"Well, just don't believe what Trey says about me. I'm a tennis player, and I play tennis, not guys. Wait here." Hannah ran in, and in a couple minutes, dashed out with her tennis bag. "Okay! Let's go!" The two began walking in the opposite direction of the main building.
"So, are you just playing for fun?" Kevin asked.
"Whaddaya mean?" Hannah asked, picking up her pace to match Kevin's.
"You know, like a hobby, not actually play real matches."
"Oh, are you saying I can't play tennis just because I'm a girl?" Hannah asked, eyeing him.
"No, I'm just saying you can't play with us guys. You're too litte!" Kevin laughed.
"Excuse me, but I think you're my height, Mister You're-too-short," Hannah said.
"Are you getting an additude with me?" Kevin asked.
"You're the one getting an additude!" Hannah said, half yelling, half giggling. "I'll have you know, I was the top in the region for my age group, back in the states."
"What stopped you from being top in the nation?" Kevin asked, suppressing his laughter.
"My coach's daughter. He's in California. My coach is only in Virginia until winter. Winter is when I do self-training."
"Well, I guess then you're coming for the tennis team," Kevin sighed, slinging his bag over his shoulder.
"And that's a bad thing because...?" Hannah asked, intrigued.
"Well, the season's about to start, and hate to say it, but no team with a girl has ever won the champoinships," Kevin sighed. "I don't know if Coach Terry will let you on the team. He's a bit overenthusiastic about winning again for the seventh year in a row."
Kevin looked at Hannah. Her face, partly hidden by her visor, portrayed disappintment. Kevin wrapped her arm around her, hugging her, "You look a lot like my little sister, you know that?"
"Heh, I never thought that you were a big brother," Hannah said, forcing a smile.
"Never thought you were a tennis player," Kevin pointed out. The two laughed as they arrived at the courts. "Here, you wait on the benches, and I'll try to talk to Coach Terry."
Hannah walked across the courts, avoiding the gaze of the whispering guys from the tennis team and the bleachers. She saw Holly and Nathan on the other side of the fence. "Holly? Nathan? I thought you were back in the room," Hannah said, walking over to the fence.
"Nathan's always getting sick," Holly said, hugging Nathan. "I personally think it's how much he's eating, not what he's eating."
"Shut up, Holly," Nathan said, pushing her off her, "I don't eat that much."
"You have a 2-liter bottle of Fanta in your backpack," Holly said, brandishing the beverage from his bag.
"Well, Nathan, you've seen the tennis team play, right?" Hannah asked. "How much of a chance do I have of getting in?"
"I dunno, I've never seen you play before. How am I supposed to know?" Nathan asked.
"Well, Kevin's calling me over. I guess you guys can come watch. Maybe the thought of knowing I have friends in the crowd'll help me." Hannah skipped across the grass court over to Coach Terry. He was middle-aged, but still looked like he could play a fair game of tennis. "Hi, my name is Han-."
"Have you played in any competitions?" Coach Terry said, scribbling sonething on his clipboard. "You know, club tournaments, matches with other clubs?"
"Is making second in Nationals good enough, sir?" Hannah asked.
Coach Terry looked up for a moment from his clipboard. "Nanasawa, Virginia. Lost to Davidson. 7-5, 6-3. I'd say you would have made first if you had developed your kick serve a bit."
"Right," Hannah muttered, shocked by how much he knew about her. "So, may I try out for the team?" she asked.
"Considering you did pretty well at that match against Davidson, I'll let the boys choose who to pit against you. You get to choose your first opponent, and they'll choose you second one. I'll make you play two matches of five sets each. You can take an hour for break." Coach Terry walked over to a spot high up on the bleachers to three boys. Talking quickly, he handed cameras to them. She sighed, getting out her tennis racquet, knowing the coach had asked the three to tape the two matches.
"Yo, Hannah Banana, get over here!" a voice yelled out from the crowd of guys, also known as the tennis team.
Twirling her racquet, she walked over to them calmly. "Who the hell just called me 'Hannah Banana?' I mean, what kinda of stupid nickname is that?" she asked.
"Heard it from Trey at footall practice yesterday," one of the boys said. A chorus of "same with me" and "yep" came after.
"Well, let me get one thing straight. If I get on the team, anyone who calls me that will meet face-to-face with my racquet," Hannah threatened.
"Shut up, shorty," another boy said, stepping up, "As long as we win, there will be no scum on this team."
"Wow, guess the first to go would be you, Mister I-think-I'm-great-because-I'm-tall."
"Just because Terry isn't here, Andy," Kevin interrupted, talking to the second boy, "doesn't mean we should start fighting."
"I'm not fighting," Andy said. "I'm waiting for some good tennis. But, Shrimpy here's taking too long with choosing."
"Kevin, get on the court. I know you can talk the talk, but can you walk the walk?" Hannah smirked as she walked on the courts. "You serve or recieve?"
"I'll serve first, thank you very much," Kevin said, grabbing a couple balls from the hoppers.
Pocketing two of the balls, Kevin walked up to the base line. He threw the ball into the air, and with one swift swing, the match began.
Andy walked over to Kevin, streching. Kevin wiped off his face with his the back of his hand. "What do you mean, letting her win?" he asked.
"Everyone knows that you, Charlie, Aiden, and Trey are soft on her," Andy said. "I, however, wil not that that midget beat me."
"Come on, Andy, she is pretty good," Kevin argued. "I haven't played like that in ages. Probably since I played you when I first came here."
"Heh, I remember that match," Andy laughed, "I barely won with a tiebreaker." His cheery additude suddenly changed to one of determination. "But, I've gotten better, and I won't let her beat me. If I lose to her, Coach Terry will definately let her on the team."
Kevin was about to speak up when a crowd of giggling girls walked by the tennis courts. "Andy! We love you!" they shrilled. "We love Winters!"
"Heh, which one of those Devonport girls is the lucky Mrs. Winters?" Kevin joked.
"Shut up, Chen," Andy laughed. "You're just jealous that I'm the ladies man and you're not."
"Are you sure? I wouldn't want to be chased by rabid fangirls if I were you. They're worse than pathetic fanboys," Hannah said, walking up behind Andy. She played around with Andy's long brown hair, until Andy spun around and grabbed her hand. Hannah let out a small cry and shut her eyes closed. "I'm sorry! Don't hurt me! Please, please, please, please..."
"Stop whimpering and get on the court, shorty," Andy said, throwing three tennis balls to Hannah. He walked over to the other side, waiting for her to serve. The look on his face showed sheer determination to win. He watched her bounce the ball, throw it in the air, and serve. Not noticing how far to his right she had served, he stunbled rying to get to the ball, but she had managed an ace.
"Wheee! An ace!" Hannah said, doing a cartwheel. "Come on, Andy! Let's play!"
Andy smirked. "Bring it on, punk."
Kevin helped Hannah back over to the bleachers. "Well, I guess he was desperate to win. But, even after hitting you, you managed to win," Kevin said.
Hannah took a seat, adjusting her visor. "Still, that's pretty low. On a better note," Hannah said, changing the subject, "do you think I'll make the team?"
"Well, I personally think if you can beat Andrew Winters, you're on. But I bet Coach will find something to criticize you on. But he said he would tell me to tell you if you made it." Kevin waved goodbye as he jogged over to where Coach Terry began tennis team practice.
Hannah tried getting up, putting a bit of pressure on her sore leg. She picked up her stuff and headed to the gate.
"I'd like to get a part-time job here. I like this kind of enviroment," Hannah said.
"I don't know. Most of the girls working here at this restaurnt are Devonport girls. And you're one of the new Everton girls I saw this morning, aren't you?" he said.
"Yes sir," Hannah said. "I saw Natalie and Charlie when I came in with Aiden."
"Aiden? You mean Aiden Samanski?" the manager asked.
"Sir? Did you call for me?" Aiden asked, walking over to the two. "Hannah? Why are you here?"
"Um, well I need money to keep up with things, and my parents don't want to send money too much. So, I decided to get a job." Hannah returned to talking with the manager. "So, do you think I can get a job here?"
"Well, I'll let you on the job. Start tomorrow, and I'll get Aiden to show you the ropes. Welcome to Blue Lagoon." The manager shook Hannah's handand went back in the kitchen, yelling commands for the other employees.
"That's Jason for ya," Aiden smiled. "You know, Carly works here. This where we actually met."
"Really? That's so sweet," Hannah giggled.
"Well, I was taking orders, and she just came in, looking all mad. I got her an iced tea and she told me about what Trey had done and all. We became really good friends, and after she dumped Trey, we went to the Devonport Sadie Hawkins dance." Aiden undid his tie.
"Wow, it's like from a movie. An innocent girl with Mr. Popular finds out he's been cheating on her, and finds comfort in a new friend, and eventually," Hannah giggled, "they fall in love with each other."
"Very funny," Aiden said, wrapping his arm around her shoulders. "Let's go back to the dorms.
The two walked outside, laughing. As they crossed the street, they came across a booth with a sign on top with "MACBETH" painted on top. "Oh! Is that the play at Devonport tonight?" Hannah asked.
"Yeah, how'd you hear about it?" Aiden asked.
"Trey told me about it when I asked what was going on around here," she explained. "Do you think we can go?"
"I don't know... Carly's not in the play, and if she hears that I went with you, well, that won't be good."
"Oh, I understand." Hannah turned to leave. "By the way, give me a call about what time tomorrow for the job."
Hannah ran ahead of Aiden to the dorms. fumbling with her keys, she opened the dorms to find Holly and Nathan on the couch watching TV. But not just anything on TV...
And I've been hearing from some readers that I stole the Idea from some show called "Zoey 101" or a quiz on by youandmeboth. I'd like to say that I haven't heard of either. So stop accusing me of something I didn't do.
