When you wake in the morning, your
Eyes still lidded with the heaviness of sleep,
You stretch to wake your body, push
Off the covers that made you sweat,
Dress and paint your pretty face, and
When you feel satisfactory, you lean
Into a scratched chair,
Let your dark lashes close over your
Eyes, and relax into a fuzzy-edged
Dream that woke you with a smile.

He is never in your dreams anymore, and
The last time you can remember, his
Enigmatic presence meant nothing.

When you've savoured your dream, it
Dissolves behind your eyes and they
Open again, and the world settles
So heavily around you, the comforting
Weight pushing you forward, so
You wrap your smile in plastic and
Sway to the day's music.

He won't dance with you anymore,
The songs are all your own now.
