A Plea to The Phantom
by Siberia

Note: My copy of Gaston Leroux's "Le fantôme de l'opéra" revealed these words to me.

Those who have gazed
Upon his scarred face
Never stay long
Caring not for his songs
But they are blind
To what is sublime

I pace down the stairs
Towards the Phantom's lair
I keep my poise
At his enchanted voice
And I lose my fears
As the Angel comes near

In the dark passage
He traces my visage
Puzzled by the girl
Who stands unperturbed
"Child," he says to my ear
Why are you here?"

"Master of music
'Tis you that I seek
Listen to my plea
As I fall to my knees
Teach me your art
Soar me above the stars
Only with your guidance
Shall I reach the heavens
Here is my soul—
Please make it immortal"

The Phantom grins
"How can I resist?
You words are on fire
Speaking with such desire!
Who am I to deny
A maiden's ardent cry?
I shall be your teacher
And together
We will conquer hearts
With the power of art"

So begins the lesson
Of music's possession
Across the lake we float
As he guides the boat
He cloaks me with his cape
Like there is no escape
And in the Angel's wing
I start to sing
