3am and wide awake

An unwelcome foreigner

Ransacks my mind

Turning upside down and inside out

Only to find emptiness

My head is a mess

And refuses to rest.

Walking in circles that grow into squares

Cutting the corners and pulling out hair

Turn the light on turn the light off

On, off, on, off,

5am still wide awake

I can wind back the clock

Or make time stop beat

And put to death the dreaded tick-tock

Still my pulse counts. Logic was lost

Then found again, dead.

Thinking in riddles speaking in rhymes

Changing the truth and rewinding time.

Turn the light on turn the light off

On, off, on, off,

7am haven’t slept for days

I can’t separate

What’s real from what’s fake

No Black and white just endless gray.

I am numb but can feel

The end coming near

Giving in to nothingness no hope of escape

It never leaves and it never breaks

Turn the light on turn the light off

On, off, on, off

Through oblivion…
