Drive Away

Drive away.

Drive out of this place

And out of my life.

I’m watching your license plate

As you drive away.

I’ll never forget the number

Although blurry through the tears,

It’s sculpted in my memory now.

I remember

Everything that you said

And exactly what you were wearing.

The time to the minute,

5:38pm.

The last hug,

How long it went on,

You held me

Unsure of whether or not

You wanted to let go.

Then you opened the door

And left me here inside.

I ran out to catch you

You were already out the driveway.

I stood weeping in the road.

As I watched you

Drive away.
