Life in Morton was just like life in every other countryside town. It could be described in one word, peaceful. Or, as Cassie Weston thought, dull. She couldn't believe that her parents actually wanted to spend their summer there. They had to be stark raving mad. Not that she really minded, but did they have to drag her into their "relaxation"? She could just as easily be "relaxing" with Kristy on a cruise somewhere exotic, like the Carribbean. Now that was her idea of relaxation. As she lay sprawled across her bed lazily, her daydream fantasy began to take shape.
Cassie lay in a lounge chair wearing her new little Billabong bikini her parents had bought just for the cruise. As she stretched luxuriously in the heat of the tropical sun, someone approached. She couldn't quite remember his name, not that it mattered all that much. As she gazed at him through her sunglasses he flashed her a smile, showing off straight, white teeth. He was beyond "cute" and more along the lines of "totally hot" with his wavy black hair, deep tan, and sexy British accent. He sat down in the lounge to her right as he offered her a glass with one of those little paper umbrellas in it.
"I thought you could use a cocktail," he told her, utterly melting her bones...
"Cass! Where are you Cass?" came her mother's voice from downstairs. Cassie let out a sigh as she flopped onto her back. She couldn't even fantasize without being interrupted for crying out loud.
"Cass!" her mother called again. "Hurry up and get down here Cass. I know you're up there. We have to go, or we'll be late for the Baker's luncheon." Great! Just what she wanted to do. Spend more time listening to a bunch of old fogeys tell countless stories about "the good ol' days". Not that she didn't like old people. She loved her grandparents. However, almost every resident of Morton was old. She was definitely in sore need of company her own age. Her eyes rolled heavenward as she pulled her shoes on and steeled herself for more nodding and smiling. Whatever had happened to the guardian angel theory she wondered. She could definitely use a little saving now.
