Heylo all, once again, I have returned with an update. Hmm … I wonder; does anyone even read these author notes? Or am I just wasting my time?? (ponders) Anyway – onto my most amazing, wonderful reader’s replies! Thank you all SO much!! :)
Twisted Shadows: Thanks for reviewing! But… uhm … what’s “Love and LessThanThree forever!”? I’m muchos confusemonded … okay, I should stop making up new words. Yesh – Sekki can lose his cool, but become all evil again! Mwahaha!! Seika… still there… what makes you think that…? Hehe…oO;; I don’t understand Plinky either, and I’ve known her for years. Scary. Me, kill off Teres? Hahaha…. Uh – I dunno if I mentioned it in an earlier chappie, but Damon and Amber haven’t lived together for a while; when she moved to the Complex, he came and helped her out a bit – but prior to that they hadn’t seen each other for a while. (Since they were ickle kiddies. I should’ve probably mentioned that earlier.) So that’s probably why they don’t quite see eye-to-eye. And Sekki is only interested in human souls – animals mean nada to him. Yesh – Sekki, the soul-eater. Hehe…oO;;
free-to-dream15: I’m SO sorry it took me forever to update! This one wasn’t too much of a wait, I hope? I appreciate your support muchlies! Now everything’s beginning to wrap itself up….
Slipping Fears: I had to click on your profile because I didn’t recognize your new penname!! It’s still very coolios! :) Sorry that it was so short! My deepest apologies! And also for the stupidly long wait. (is embarrassed.)
thescottishdragon: Yes – I know it’s near enough a miracle when I finally get around to updating! I’m sorry! I like my left shoe – please don’t take it!! I understand exactly what you mean – everyone loves to hate a good bad guy … that probably came out a little wrong – but you get the gist of my meaning? Here’s the update for ya!
Lavender-Fox-Daisy: Sorry it took me forever! Thank you for reviewing!!
Plinky: It’s an excuse. Deal with it. XP. Hehe – my lil raspy demon is quite afraid of you, I’m sure. Thanks for your compliments, pathetically short, I know – these final few chappies will be muchos longos. Here’s the update! (pries lil raspy demon away)
water lorelei: Yeah – I know my chappies have been getting steadily shorter – but I was going through writers block and didn’t feel muchos like writing. (hangs head in shame) However, these last three chappies I’m aiming to be at least seven pages long, so yay! :) Hope this update was fast enough? Sorry to keep you all waiting!! Schedule, Sekki? Perhaps, perhaps not…. Scary story? Mwhahahahahhaah (loel – lots of evil laughter)
angelfire25: Thanks for reviewing! So sorry about the shortness! It’s pathetic, I know. Longer chappie!
Okay, my reviews replied to, this chappie is dedicated to alexa-xox THANKS A BILLION!! Enough of me, now – onto the next chappie! Enjoy!
Shadows consuming all… swirling darkness, hollow…. I don’t… under… understand….
“Please, you’re in there…you have…to be….”
Images flashing, blinding white light – fading… Mist? Why? Where… am I?
Streaks of crimson… an overwhelming sensation of pain; of power… blood runs freely… life force washing over … claws? I don’t… understand…. I … am empty. I don’t… I don’t feel… that sensation I experienced … the … the … the guilt… the sorrow and remorse. I’m missing … I’m empty. I feel nothing.
Blurred vision… the mist is confusing, but I… I can sense others, hear, and smell… I can feel them. Him. Sekki, the controller. I understand. He … took my soul. For…for…
Broken bodies pile up… death hangs in the air, fear… I smell fear. I sense it, I taste it in the air…afraid of … of him. Fear for life. For souls. I understand.
“Seika, please….”
Seika? I remember that. I understood that … once. When I was not …empty.
“You’re there, please listen to me….”
Go away. I am trying to remember… Bloodshed, pain, power… emptiness.
“…you’re one of us – you have friends here who care about you…”
Care for a demon? I am still…trying to remember… he took my soul…for…what was it for…?
“…safe on the outside…”
Outside? Leave me…I am trying to … remember….
“…not stop until you listen, until you reply.”
Listen. Reply. I am empty. I feel nothing. I sense only fear… you are different…you show no fear…human. Why?
“Seika, please, girl!”
Girl…a human. Seika? I am…I can’t remember…I …I am nothing. I am empty…why?
“I know you can hear me, I know you understand…please come back …”
Out? Through…to there…I don’t understand. I want to…Sekki…the controller…he has my … my …soul…I have a soul. I know…I …I want it. Human again…understand everything…I …I want….
“You, demon.”
Me? I am being called. Again. I don’t … I am trying to …remember….
“I ordered you here, demon! How dare you ignore me!”
Go…there…I don’t want…No. Not that…but…I fear…I must obey.
Darkness… emptiness… others. Other demons…they are different. Without souls. I am …different. I want…I want. I want….
New life? Humans. More. These others…I know. I understand. No …darkness…no confusion. I….
The mist had all but vanished from the cul-de-sac; visibility for Teres was near enough exactly as it should be in the early hours of the morning. Though there was no birdsong to greet the coming dawn, he knew. He also knew that with the daybreak… came the termination of his bargain with Sekki. If I don’t try and get those earrings from Sekki…that could be it. Teres thought to himself.
As he stood pondering his next move, the arrival of his friends niggled away in the back of his mind. Stupid, stupid, stupid. Teres kept his eyes on Sekki the whole time, not even looking at Seika; too afraid Sekki would sense something amiss.
He’s a ‘great Mage,’ after all…he probably already knows they’re here. Yeah…but if I let him know I’m onto him…it might make it a bit easier – they’re in danger already…it might be easier for me if he knows I know I’m aware of their presence, and that I know he knows as well. But chances are he doesn’t know, and I’d put them in danger for nothing. Jeez…
“Company,” Teres shrugged, hoping he was right in his guess that Sekki already knew of Amber and Damon’s arrival.
“I see.” Sekki replied equally coolly.
“Yeah,” Teres coughed awkwardly. Did he know or didn’t he? Great, now I put them in his sights… “But, of course, you already knew that, eh?” He took a risk.
Sekki smirked at him and blinked lazily.
Silence. Great. Teres thought, running a hand through his hair angrily. Wise guy.
Teres suddenly had the sensation of loneliness – of being completely lost in a sea of darkness, surrounded on all sides by enemies. He shivered involuntarily, and folded his arms, trying to brush off the feeling.
Perfect. Sekki narrowed his eyes fractionally, noting Teres’s sudden discomfort. Now to bring the other two rushing in.
Sekki…that human…the new humans…connected. This one human…fearless…has changed. Fear…why? I want…to…to…help…? Yes. My soul. Seika. I am beginning to understand…to remember.
“Teres, I believe you are aware of our deal?” Sekki turned his attention onto the boy.
“Uh-huh,” he nodded in agreement, mind still working overtime.
“I believe the time has come to end this…. You.” Sekki pointed at the demon a few paces from where Teres stood. Seika.
Me. Again. No…I don’t want to…to listen. No. I want my soul back. I want….
“One task for you,” the soul-eater continued, keeping Amber and Damon’s poorly hidden silhouettes in the corner of his eye, “this boy. Kill him.”
Teres looked up. “You… what…?” he mumbled on reflex.
Kill…fearless. No. I…I don’t…I…no. No. “No.”
“You do not agree or disagree, demon,” Sekki spat, brows furrowing in fury, “you obey. Now.”
“No.” Seika’s demon replied. “No. I don’t… want. No.”
Teres’s face instantly cracked into a smirk, eyes shining in triumph. “Sorry, Sekki,” he laughed, “no joy. She not yours anymore, hehe.” He grinned, strolling aimlessly towards the soul-eater.
Sekki remained impassive, though his eyes glared daggers at the approaching boy. “Fine. I have no use for a demon which does not obey.” He hissed, before turning to another demon, “you, I order you to kill Seika, now!” He spat, venom in his voice.
The demon took a step forward, before hesitating – unsure whether or not to continue.
“What are you waiting for!? I ordered you! Kill that one or I’ll have you all killed!!” Sekki raised his voice.
The demons shifted uncomfortably, but none obeyed – they all had their eyes trained on Teres, who was standing right next to Sekki, so blinded by fury he hadn’t realised Teres. “I can kill you. All of you… in a second!” The soul-eater was hissing to his army. “I will kill you! Attack them now! The boy and the rogue demon!”
Several demons snarled, though whether it was aimed at Teres or Sekki was uncertain.
“It’s the earrings on Sekki,” Amber explained, suddenly realising for herself, “one if them… one of the rings… must have Seika’s soul sealed within… like Teres’s demon… the one that attacked you.”
“I get it,” Damon nodded. “But… if only one of the earrings has her soul… what do the other two contain?”
“Uhm… I …” Amber faltered, “I… don’t know. Could be anything… powerful demons… if he added Seika’s power to his own… and he got it through the earring… then… the rest of his power… he must get from the other two!”
Damon nodded in agreement, “makes sense, yeah. Teres is gonna take ‘em all off. No power. No control over demons… no Sekki.” Damon smirked as he turned back to look at his friend. Go on, Teres. You know what you’re doing.
Teres stood only an inch or two shorter than Sekki, but the moment the soul-eater faced him, Teres reached out and grabbed Sekki’s ear; his fingers closing around the silver of the rings.
“What-” Sekki tried to yell, but was cut off as Teres whipped his hand back, taking with him the three earrings, and a small chunk of Sekki’s actual ear.
Instead of bright red blood pouring from the wound, a thick, black substance oozed out, dribbling from the top half of the ear and down Sekki’s neck. While Sekki cried out in pain, Teres felt a huge burning sensation in his hand.
Looking down, he saw some of Sekki’s ‘blood’ was on his hand – it was like acid, burning his flesh. Teres dropped the earrings onto the floor, leaving his hand shaking as the acidic blood continue to singe his flesh. Thoughhe was in extreme pain, he couldn’t help but look at the soul-eater.
Sekki’s entire form was consumed by shadow – writhing around in agony. The black ‘blood’ spilled over onto the ground, causing it to hiss as the concrete road was burned away. The demons, too, seemed to be affected, their gaze locked on Sekki – unblinking eyes took in all that happened, until the shadows completely consumed his physical form, and was lost from sight.
A wave of coldness radiated from the shapeless shadow; causing Teres to see his own breath in the air. Layers of frost coated the road and houses in seconds, even the flower petals and grass turned white with ice.
“Yeah.” Amber nodded, following him to the road.
“You guys… I told you to go… I dunno what’s gonna happen now,” Teres muttered upon their arrival.
“Too late,” Damon laughed. “Your hand!” He gasped.
“Oh, this?” Teres held his arm up.
Most of the flesh on his right hand had been completely burned away by the blood, the traces of which were disappearing quickly.
“Teres! Oh my god!” Amber gasped, grasping Teres’s wrist and holding it close to her face. “I can heal this, don’t worry, Teres.” She soothed, though calming Teres was unnecessary.
“Hold on, Amber,” he stopped her, and pointed with his good hand at the once shapeless shadow. Amber and Damon followed his finger line, and watched with a mixture of fear and fascination, as the cloak of darkness surrounding Sekki fell away.
