"Mommy" he said
As he lifted his head
With that distant sad look in his eye
She glanced down with a sigh
Picking him up way high
"How much does it hurt when you die?"
She looked away
Doing her best not to say
"Give it time, honey, you'll soon find out."
Her heart filled with doubt
And her eyes flew about
Then went back to his where they'd stay
She simply did smile
Then hold him awhile
Before sending him back off to play
Her husband walked in
With an arrogant grin
As he threw his arms 'round her waist
"There's no time to waste"
He declared with distaste
As he drew out the knife to begin
Then spinning around
As his wife gave a frown
Yes, her son was about to find out.
