Have you ever noticed that it is in human nature to walk down the street and wonder about the people we pass? There is almost no chance we will ever know the person, yet we long to know about their lives. We don’t think of it as judgement, but rather, curiosity. We just want to know about other people. We want to know if they have similar aspects in their lives that we do.

You might see a blind person crossing the street with their cane. While they tap along, you wonder if they have always been blind, how they became blind, and many other things. If you see a young girl that is pregnant you wonder what happened. Was she raped? Did she just make a mistake? Where is the father? These are all reasonable questions and we find ourselves thinking them all the time.

I’ve always wondered something though. Does anyone see me and ask themselves questions? Do they create a story for me based on looking at me from a distance? If so, what do they think? Maybe they think I am a snotty brat who is merely taking the bus home because my daddy’s expensive car broke down. Maybe they just see a normal kid that’s just living her boring life. I wonder if anyone sees me for who I truly am.

Does anyone see me as the little girl I used to be? The one who was happy? Do they see me as the anorexic ten year old that struggled to eat just one bite of food? Do they see the a young teenager who is breaking down inside? Do they see the successful woman I want to be? We all want to be seen as a great person. I only wish I knew the thoughts of those who have merely glanced at me from afar. Do you?
